Find Scott County Court Dates

Need a Scott County court date? Start with the court named on your citation or case papers, because Scott County runs several calendars instead of one. Circuit, Criminal, and General Sessions settings all travel through one county route. Chancery and municipal matters take others. The Circuit Court Clerk and, for Chancery, the Clerk & Master hold the official records and confirm what the online docket shows. Confirm before you drive. A docket-call time is not always the time your single case gets called, and an old city event is not a current notice.

How the Scott County Court Calendar Works

No single verified calendar gathers every Scott County court. The public entry point is the county-linked Scott County Online Court Records portal, which covers Circuit and General Sessions. Its checklist splits those into criminal and civil. Chancery, Juvenile, Drug Court, and municipal cases are simply not options there.

Calendar access follows whoever keeps the file. Circuit Court Clerk Donnie Phillips maintains the Circuit, Criminal, and General Sessions dockets. Clerk & Master Michael Potter holds the Chancery records. Oneida and Winfield run their own municipal routes. Huntsville posts no verified current municipal calendar online. The docket may list an event, yet the correct clerk is still the best source for a final check.

Scott County General Sessions at Nine

The official General Sessions page lists weekday sessions at 9 a.m. at the Justice Center. Treat that as a docket-call framework, not a promise. Cases are heard as the judge works the list. Expect to wait.

Quick distinction: “Weekdays at 9 a.m.” describes the General Sessions session. The case notice, attorney, or clerk confirms the actual date and instructions.

Criminal work in General Sessions includes preliminary hearings and arraignments, alongside civil matters within its jurisdiction. The setting type signals which stage is due.

Scott County Court Date Lookups

Gather the party name, case year, case number, and court type first. Those fields match the Scott TnCIS search and help the clerk separate similar names.

  1. Read the notice or citation and identify Circuit, Criminal, General Sessions, Chancery, or municipal court.
  2. For Circuit or General Sessions, search Scott TnCIS and open the matching case.
  3. Call the Circuit Court Clerk at (423) 663-2440, or visit 575 Scott High Drive in Huntsville, to confirm the setting.
  4. For Chancery, call (423) 663-2627. For a city citation, contact the municipal clerk or number printed on the ticket.
  5. Check counsel’s notice and any posted docket sheet. Public-terminal and daily printed-calendar access were not verified, so ask before relying on either.

The AOC case-history search covers Tennessee appellate courts, not the ordinary Scott trial calendar.

Oneida Court Meets Every Other Friday

Oneida posts the clearest city schedule. The Oneida Municipal Court meets every other Friday, with Judge Philip Kazee presiding at the Oneida Municipal Services Building. Its caseload is traffic citations. Call Oneida Police at (423) 569-4255 with citation questions; the AOC directory lists clerk Melissa Bowlin at (423) 569-4295.

Remember, every other Friday is a rhythm. Your appearance date, holiday shifts, and resets still control. Serious misdemeanor and felony matters go to Scott County General Sessions in Huntsville.

Court Settings: What Each Field Means

A setting line is a compact notice, so read every field together and weigh it against the newest order.

DateThe day currently assigned, subject to a later reset.
TimeThe start or docket-call time, not always the exact case-call time.
CourtroomThe room or location where the matter is assigned.
JudgeThe judicial officer or division set to hear it.
Setting TypeThe purpose, such as arraignment, preliminary hearing, motion, or trial.

A label never promises the matter will finish that day. A motion is just a request before the court. A trial setting reserves a date, and a later order can still move it.

Scott County Setting Terms

Calendar terms name stages, not outcomes. They help you ask the clerk a precise question.

Arraignment
A hearing where charges are addressed and a plea may be entered.
Preliminary hearing
A General Sessions stage used to decide whether a criminal matter proceeds.
Motion
A request for a ruling on one issue.
Continuance
An order moving an event to another date.
Disposition
The recorded result of a claim, charge, or case.

Court type and case type add context. They cannot replace the event label or the filed order.

When a Court Date Moves

A reset or continuance sets a new date, not a dismissal. Scott TnCIS itself warns that web information may be incomplete or out of date. So review the newest event and order. Then confirm the replacement date with the court that owns the file.

Never assume a hearing vanished because the search no longer lists it. A term may be entered wrong. The case may sit outside the portal, or access may be restricted. Call the clerk and your counsel. Write down who confirmed the change and when.

Note: State modernization plans do not create real-time Scott County updates or a local e-filing launch date.

Winfield and Huntsville Calendar Gaps

Winfield keeps a partial picture. The Winfield City Hall page says its administrator handles Municipal Court duties. It also says City Hall accepts traffic payments, with weekday office hours but no current hearing schedule or online lookup. A May 2021 official calendar item is history, not notice.

Huntsville is quieter still. The current Town of Huntsville site offers no municipal search, calendar, or payment page. A 2010 directory mentions a municipal court, but old data cannot establish current jurisdiction or hours. Call the town about a city citation. County matters go through the Circuit Clerk or Clerk & Master.

Missed Settings and What Comes Next

Act fast after a missed date. Pull the entry, call the right clerk, and tell your counsel. Ask whether the judge entered a failure to appear or issued a warrant. Ask about changed bond terms or any new event. The clerk reports the record but cannot give legal advice.

Missed a setting? A missed criminal or traffic appearance can lead to serious court action.

Call the issuing court or Scott County Circuit Court Clerk at once and obtain the current status.

Consult a Tennessee lawyer about any warrant, bond issue, or new setting.

Never appear at a different docket without instructions. Each court keeps its own calendar and files.

Confirm Scott County Dates Before Travel

Scott County spans 532.09 square miles, with listed density at 41.8. A phone check can save a long drive. The trip may be built on an old event. A mismatched address can cause the same wasted drive. AOC, TnCIS, and courthouse materials all use 575 Scott High Drive. Some county listings use 535, so confirm before travel or delivery.

The 1906 courthouse still stands as a landmark. The county says courts and judicial offices sit in the 2008 Justice Center. Rely on the confirmed destination rather than assuming every courthouse reference means the same counter.

Scott County Courts Beyond TnCIS

Scott County sits in Tennessee's Eighth Judicial District alongside Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, and Union counties. Some state records name a judge or the district rather than posting a plain county calendar. That is fine. Just match the caption and the Scott case number before you treat a district item as local notice. Zachary R. Walden is the current Criminal Court judge. An older page may still carry a stale name. Trust the newest docket entry or a direct word from the clerk over dated copy.

Chancery scheduling takes a separate check. That court handles divorce, probate and trusts, real estate, adoption, conservatorship, workers' compensation, and related civil cases. Its records run through Michael Potter, not the Circuit and General Sessions checklist. Juvenile proceedings can be confidential. A gap in a public result is not a reason to hunt for protected details.

Federal hearings live in another system entirely. Scott County federal matters fall under the Eastern District of Tennessee. Dates sit in CM/ECF and PACER. Bankruptcy goes through the Eastern District bankruptcy route. Tennessee appellate events sit in AOC C-Track. No single Scott County court calendar reaches all of those levels.
